5 Tips for Fence Installation Prep

Fencing companies are very popular all around the world. According to Grand View Research, in 2021, the global market was $27.88 billion. If you want to get a fence company to install one for you, you need to prepare first. Here are five tips for you.

1. Get a Plat

You might be asking yourself, "What is a plat?" Civil engineers create scale maps of various neighborhoods. Why is this important? The map clearly outlines the boundaries of each property. That way, you will be able to tell if your fence will stay within those boundaries and not cross over into your neighbor's. This can save you the hassle of potentially having to remove your new fence and pay for another one.

2. Get the Correct Permits

Once you've made sure that your fence will only be on your property, the next step is to get the proper permits. Find out what the requirements are - does the property owner need to get it, or does someone from the fence company? Make sure that your fence will meet all the requirements in terms of materials and height.

3. Clean Your Yard

Once you've done your research and found a highly-recommended fence company, you need to clear out your yard. This will make it easy for the people doing the work to walk around while they are doing their job. You can throw out things that are trash and put things that you are keeping in a safe place, like the garage.

4. Mark Off the Fence and Property Lines

You've looked at the plat and know the exact inch where your property line ends and where your neighbor's line begins. Mark off that area. After you've done that, then you can then mark off the fence line - use two separate colors. That will hopefully prevent any issues from arising later on after the fence has been installed.

5. Inspect The Fence Line

While an expert from the fence company will probably do this, you can contribute by doing this yourself, too. Walk along the fence line and look for potential problems, like bumps or dips. If you straighten it out yourself, you could save money. Also, talk with your neighbors. Let them know about the fence and show them the plat if you need to. That can ease any worries. Then you can enjoy getting your new fence.
